About Me and SkidLidVideo.com

This website arose from my audio, video, and computer hobbies in combination with my racing motocross. I loved watching helmet cam videos I could find on the net and there are very few. So I did some research, ordered some equipment and put together my own helmet camera system and the rest is this website.

My name is Ben Doehrmann. I'm 33, live in a small town in northwest IA, and I've been a motocross and motorcycle fanatic since I saw my very first motocross race on TV as a kid sometime back in the late 70s, early 80s. Growing up on a small farm in central Iowa without any money doesn't really allow for dreams of a pro motocross career let alone even having a motorcycle.

With some good farm mechanical ability and the never relenting drive to ride dirt bikes, we could always find cheap junk bikes to fix up and ride till they died. Usually old dual shocker enduro models, 70's Honda XL250s, old 175 Kawi's, 1975 Yamaha YZ125 monoshocker (first generation). The common 90 and 110 ATC 3 wheelers and numerous others we went through over the years, not including the snowmobiles and go-karts.

At the age of 22, done with college and finally able to afford a worthwhile bike, I purchased a mechanically poor 1989 ATK 406. Then a 1983 Honda CR480, then a 1996 CR250, a 1998 CR250, a 2002 CR250, a 2003 CR450, a 2005 CR450(left) and finally my current 2006 CR450.  I began racing competitively somewhere in there and am still at it, beginning in 250 C class, then 250B class and Vet classes, and currently 250 Pro. I race local motocross, regional Arenacross, and some hare scrambles.

I no longer rent out my camera systems, as it's very hard on digital cam-corders. Having wrecked several of them now, the cost is too prohibitive.  Click here to see how tough I am
